HARRISBURG, PA — Families will have the chance to explore a wide range of K-12 school options at a free, family-friendly school fair organized by PA Families for Education Choice. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, located at 222 Market Street in Harrisburg.
The school fair will feature representatives from a variety of educational options, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private institutions, online learning platforms, and homeschooling programs. Participating schools include Pennwood Cyber Charter School, Reach Cyber Charter School, The Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School, Commonwealth Charter Academy (CCA), Agora Cyber Charter School, Insight PA Cyber Charter School, and several others.
Organizers aim to provide families with the resources and information they need to make informed decisions about their children’s education in a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. “As a parent, I know how difficult it can be to find the right school for your child. Families are ever-changing, as are the needs of their children. We want you to have information about education options at your fingertips,” said Sharon Sedlar, founder of PA Families for Education Choice. She emphasized, “This event is an opportunity to see as many amazing Harrisburg area education options and child resources as possible. Helping parents find the best educational fit for their family is our top priority.”
Beyond educational opportunities, the fair will offer kid-friendly activities such as face painting, balloon artists, and complimentary food, adding a festive touch for families while they explore their school choices.
The school fair coincides with National School Choice Week, an annual event running from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1 that celebrates and raises awareness of educational opportunities across the country. This year marks the 15th anniversary of National School Choice Week, which includes over 27,000 events nationwide.
Pennsylvania’s continued commitment to expanding educational accessibility adds to the relevance of the event. The state increased funding for the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs by $150 million in the most recent budget, enabling more scholarships for students and empowering families to choose schools that best fit their needs.
PA Families for Education Choice, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting parents in accessing personalized education for their children, is hosting this event to ensure all families have the opportunity to explore and access quality educational options in their communities. Families attending the fair will also have the chance to learn about scholarship opportunities and speak directly with school representatives to better understand the options available to them.
