HARRISBURG, PA — In a decisive move by Pennsylvania’s justice system, Ian Nakonechni, a 36-year-old man from Greene County with a history of domestic violence, has been sentenced to 60 to 120 years in prison. This sentencing, announced Friday, follows his conviction for the strangulation and sexual assault of a woman in Jackson Township in 2022.

The ruling, issued in Greene County Court, comes after a jury found Nakonechni guilty in October 2023 of aggravated assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, strangulation, along with other felonies and misdemeanors. Highlighting the severity of Nakonechni’s actions and his prior convictions, the Attorney General’s Office successfully argued for a substantial prison term.

In addition to the lengthy sentence, Nakonechni is mandated to register as a sex offender for life, a stipulation that marks the gravity of his crimes and their impact on the community.

Attorney General Michelle Henry emphasized the importance of this sentence, noting it as a crucial step in curtailing Nakonechni’s pattern of dangerous behavior towards his partners. The case sheds light on the often-hidden realm of domestic violence, presenting significant challenges for law enforcement and prosecution. However, the diligent work of the involved authorities has now ensured that Nakonechni will be unable to harm others.

The charges stemmed from an incident in February 2022 on Falling Timber Road, where Nakonechni brutally assaulted the victim using a pipe and flashlight, in addition to committing sexual assault and strangulation.

The Greene County District Attorney’s Office initially handled the case, which was later referred to the Office of Attorney General. Senior Deputy Attorney General Alicia Werner led the prosecution, culminating in Nakonechni’s conviction for eight felonies and three misdemeanors.
