PENNSYLVANIA — The holiday season in Pennsylvania officially began on Tuesday as Governor Josh Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, and Department of General Services Secretary Reggie McNeil took part in the 2023 Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Capitol in Harrisburg.

“I love this time of year and how it brings people together, and I’m so excited to light my first Christmas tree as Governor – a beautiful Douglas Fir from Carbon County,” Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his enthusiasm for the festive tradition. He also extended well wishes to all Pennsylvanians, regardless of their holiday traditions, hoping they get to spend time with loved ones and count their blessings.

The centerpiece of the ceremony was a majestic 20-foot Douglas Fir sourced from Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Lehighton, Carbon County. Illuminated by 1,250 LED lights, the tree sparkled in the evening glow, its branches adorned with more than 700 handmade ornaments. These ornaments were especially significant as they were donated by Pre-K for PA students and seniors from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, representing communities across the Commonwealth.

Governor Shapiro, along with Lori, his wife, and their children, wished everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, marking the beginning of a festive season filled with joy, unity, and a sense of community across Pennsylvania.
