HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) has successfully concluded the deployment of body-worn cameras for all patrol troopers ahead of schedule, marking a significant milestone in transparency and accountability in law enforcement.

The initiative equipped over 3,000 troopers stationed at 89 locations statewide with body cameras and modernized the mobile video recorders in more than 1,400 patrol vehicles. This effort reflects PSP’s dedication to fostering public trust by documenting interactions in real time while enhancing officer safety and operational effectiveness.

“Our ability to maintain efficient operations relies heavily on the trust placed in us by the communities we serve,” said PSP Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris. “With the completion of our body-worn camera rollout, we aim to strengthen that trust by documenting our public interactions and demonstrating our commitment to transparency, accountability, and respectful police services.”

Legislators praised the initiative, citing its benefits for evidence collection, public trust, and officer training. Senator Lisa Baker, Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, stated, “Body cameras play an increasingly vital role in law enforcement, helping to preserve critical evidence and foster accountability, ultimately increasing the public’s trust in our officers.”

The rollout, which began in the summer of 2023, involved a five-year partnership with Axon, an Arizona-based technology provider. The updated systems include enhanced recording capabilities, capturing broader perspectives during interactions and incidents, further supporting PSP’s mission of professional policing.

This implementation positions PSP as a leader in leveraging technology to improve public safety and reaffirms its commitment to excellence in service for the residents of Pennsylvania.
