HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) have enlisted Jeffrey B. Miller, a seasoned security consultant and former State Police Commissioner, to conduct an independent review of security protocols at the Governor’s Residence following a breach and arson attack early Sunday. The announcement was made by PSP Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris, who emphasized the need for public confidence in the state’s ability to safeguard its leadership and facilities.
“The public expects and deserves an independent examination of the events that transpired during this unprecedented attack on our government leadership,” said Colonel Paris. “The Pennsylvania State Police values the trust of the people we serve. By entrusting this review to an independent examiner with first-hand knowledge of our Commonwealth government, I believe we will continue to earn that trust and, more importantly, the public’s confidence that we are doing everything possible to prevent anything like this attack from ever happening again.”
Miller, a Harrisburg native, brings decades of experience to the role. Appointed as PSP’s 18th Commissioner in 2003 by Governor Ed Rendell, Miller served nearly six years in the position, gaining national recognition for his leadership during crises such as the 2006 West Nickel Mines school shooting. After retiring in 2008, he transitioned to the private sector, holding security leadership positions with the National Football League, the Kansas City Chiefs, and MSA Security. His work has included managing security for high-profile events like the Super Bowl. Currently based in San Diego, Miller owns Jeffrey Miller Consulting, providing security services to entities ranging from professional sports teams to public safety organizations.
The scope of Miller’s independent assessment includes a detailed review of the residence’s security systems, the security detail’s duty assignments, and response protocols during the incident. His team will also conduct site visits and interviews, culminating in a comprehensive written report for PSP and the Governor’s Office.
This decision reflects the state’s commitment to reinforcing safety measures and preventing future incidents. With Miller’s extensive expertise in government and public safety, officials aim to restore confidence while ensuring the Governor’s Residence remains secure.
