PITTSBURGH, PA — A former resident of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge related to violating federal firearms laws, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced on Wednesday.
Akeem Vance, 39, is the sole defendant named in the one-count indictment. The charge alleges that on August 2, 2023, Vance knowingly possessed ammunition as a convicted felon. Federal law prohibits individuals who have been convicted of a felony from possessing firearms or ammunition.
If found guilty, Vance could face a maximum total sentence of up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. As per the federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would consider the seriousness of the offense and the defendant’s prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Katherine C. Jordan will be prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
As with all legal proceedings, it’s important to bear in mind that an indictment is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
