HARRISBURG, PA — On March 20, 2024, Mario Ruiz-Ruiz, a 35-year-old man from Mexico, was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after being previously deported, according to an announcement made by United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam.

The indictment claims that Ruiz-Ruiz was removed from the country on March 24, 2021, via El Paso, Texas. Despite this deportation, it is alleged that he was found in Adams County, Pennsylvania, on March 13, 2024, without having legally obtained permission to return to the United States.

The case against Ruiz-Ruiz is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen Dukes, following an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations.

If found guilty, Ruiz-Ruiz faces a significant penalty under federal law, which could include up to ten years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The final sentence would be determined by a judge based on the federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation, and Ruiz-Ruiz, like all individuals charged with a crime, is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The indictment underscores the ongoing efforts of federal law enforcement to enforce immigration laws within the United States.
