JOHNSTOWN, PA — Shawn Geer, 47, of Erie, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to the possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
The official charge against Geer stems from an incident on July 2, 2023, within the Western District of Pennsylvania, where he was allegedly found in possession of 50 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine, indicating an intent to distribute the drug.
Given the gravity of the allegations, Geer faces a stringent potential sentence ranging from a minimum of five years to up to 40 years in prison, alongside the possibility of a fine reaching as high as $5 million, or both. The final sentencing, however, will take into account the seriousness of the offense and any previous criminal history associated with Geer, in accordance with federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney Maureen Sheehan-Balchon is representing the government in the prosecution of this case. The indictment follows a thorough investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely a formal charge and does not determine the guilt of the accused. Shawn Geer is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The case against Geer is expected to proceed in the federal judicial system, where the evidence will be presented, and a determination of guilt will be made based on the merits of the case.
