ERIE, PA — An Erie, Pennsylvania resident has been sentenced to 72 months in federal prison for violating federal drug laws. The sentencing was announced by United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan on Friday, January 5, 2024.
Marcus Dwayne Thompson, aged 37, received the sentence from United States District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter. This case is the latest in a series of efforts by law enforcement agencies to crack down on drug trafficking and distribution in the region.
The case against Thompson centered on his activities on or around December 11, 2019. According to court documents, Thompson distributed more than fifty grams of a mixture containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. Methamphetamine, a highly addictive stimulant, poses severe health risks and contributes significantly to drug-related crimes.
Thompson’s actions constituted a clear violation of federal drug laws, which strictly prohibit the manufacture, distribution, or possession of controlled substances such as methamphetamine.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul S. Sellers prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The successful prosecution of Thompson sends a clear message about the consequences of drug-related offenses and serves as a deterrent for similar crimes.
United States Attorney Olshan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their diligent work leading to Thompson’s successful prosecution.
