PITTSBURGH, PA — In a culmination of a nine-month investigation, Brent Coder, a 57-year-old former resident of DuBois, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to a stern 70 months behind bars for his role in a sprawling drug trafficking operation. This operation spanned across Jefferson, Clearfield, and Allegheny counties, leaving communities on edge. Following his prison term, Coder will be under supervised release for three years, ensuring he doesn’t slip back into old habits.

United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand handed down the sentence on Tuesday, marking the end of a significant chapter in Pennsylvania’s fight against narcotics. The case against Coder unfolded like a crime drama, beginning with a sale of two ounces of methamphetamine to a confidential informant on August 19, 2020. This initial act set the stage for a series of events that would eventually lead to Coder’s downfall.

A mere month after the first sale, Pennsylvania State Police made a significant discovery — approximately one and a half pounds of methamphetamine hidden in Coder’s vehicle. But the law enforcement didn’t stop there. On August 31, 2021, federal agents executed a search warrant at Coder’s residence, uncovering an additional pound of methamphetamine along with four firearms, sealing Coder’s fate.

Assistant United States Attorney Jonathan D. Lusty led the charge in prosecuting Coder, ensuring that justice was served for the communities plagued by Coder’s operations. The successful prosecution was the result of a concerted effort by a coalition of law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General, and many more. Local authorities such as the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office also played pivotal roles in bringing Coder to justice.
