JOHNSTOWN, PA — A citizen of the Dominican Republic has been sentenced to seven years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for illegally reentering the United States after deportation.

U.S. District Judge Stephanie L. Haines imposed the sentence on Rudys Osvaldo Torres, 50, on December 7, 2023.

Court records reveal that around March 15, 2021, Torres was found in Somerset County, Pennsylvania without having obtained permission from the Department of Homeland Security to reenter the U.S. This breach occurred despite Torres having been previously deported and removed from the country.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Arnold P. Bernard, Jr. on behalf of the government.

U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan praised the Pennsylvania State Police and Customs Enforcement for their investigation, which led to Torres’ successful prosecution.
