ANNVILLE, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is encouraging eligible veterans to apply for the Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension program, which provides $150 monthly assistance to qualifying individuals. With April marking National Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month, the DMVA aims to raise awareness about this vital benefit.
“It is important that we never forget the sacrifices our service members make while in uniform. Sometimes those sacrifices come in the form of life-long injuries,” said Maj. Gen. John Pippy, Pennsylvania’s adjutant general and head of the DMVA. “It is our responsibility to aid those with extreme loss, and the Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension is one way we can do that. I encourage all eligible veterans to apply for these benefits.”
Currently, approximately 2,400 veterans across Pennsylvania are enrolled in the program. To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Pennsylvania resident at the time of entering military service.
- Have been honorably discharged or discharged under honorable conditions.
- Possess a service-connected disability rating of 40% or higher in each of two or more limbs, as determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
To apply, Pennsylvania veterans should contact their County Director of Veterans Affairs in the county where they live. Learn more about the DMVA Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans Pension Program at the Pension Program.
The program represents Pennsylvania’s ongoing commitment to supporting its veterans who have sustained life-altering injuries during their service. By raising awareness, the DMVA hopes to ensure all eligible veterans can access the benefits they have earned.
