HARRISBURG, PA — Comcast has been selected by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to extend its broadband network to 158 municipalities that previously had limited access to high-speed internet. This initiative is part of the state’s Broadband Infrastructure Program, funded by the Capital Projects Fund (CPF), and aims to bring gigabit-plus speeds to homes and businesses across the state.

With more than $61 million awarded by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority, Comcast is set to offer its suite of services, including Xfinity Internet, TV & Streaming, Xfinity Mobile, as well as Comcast Business Internet and mobile services to underserved areas. The project is expected to reach completion by late 2026, marking a significant milestone in Pennsylvania’s efforts to ensure statewide access to the digital economy.

Ricky Frazier Jr., Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Keystone Region, expressed enthusiasm over the selection. “We are thrilled to have been selected by the Commonwealth to reach more Pennsylvanians in unserved areas with our superior network while also enabling them to benefit from the power of the Internet and engage in the digital economy,” said Frazier.

This expansion will affect residents and businesses in 13 counties, ranging from Adams to York County, significantly enhancing the digital infrastructure in these areas. Notably, Washington County has also committed additional funding to support the extension of internet service within its jurisdiction. This partnership underscores the local government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for its residents, boosting property values, and providing essential resources for low-income households.

John Timney, Executive Director of the Washington County Authority, highlighted the collaboration’s potential to enrich the community by ensuring access to high-speed internet. Among the promised benefits are Comcast’s Internet Essentials program and various digital literacy resources aimed at supporting low-income families in their navigation of the digital world.

This ambitious project underlines the critical importance of internet connectivity in today’s society, where access to information, educational resources, and economic opportunities increasingly relies on digital platforms. By extending high-speed internet to underserved regions, Comcast and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania aim to foster a more equitable and connected future for all Pennsylvanians.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas can look forward to enhanced internet access as they anticipate the rollout of these services. Information regarding service availability and project timelines will be accessible through Comcast’s dedicated online platform, offering communities a glimpse into the future of connectivity in Pennsylvania.
