HARRISBURG, PA — In an effort to foster a deeper engagement with the state’s waterways, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is calling for grant applications to support educational programs that ignite new and renewed interest in fishing and boating activities across Pennsylvania. This initiative, termed “R3,” focuses on the recruitment, retention, and reactivation of fishing and boating enthusiasts.

The application window for these grants is open and will remain accessible until December 6, 2024. Through this program, the PFBC aims to promote accessible and inclusive learning opportunities that enhance participants’ knowledge, build confidence in their skills, and provide social support to empower them to explore Pennsylvania’s aquatic environments.

Highlighting the program’s past achievements, the PFBC awarded $203,527 in R3 Grant funding in its most recent cycle. This funding bolstered 19 educational projects across 17 counties, in addition to a broader statewide initiative. These projects successfully demonstrated how they would advance R3 goals by connecting Pennsylvanians with the state’s diverse array of waterways.

The R3 Grant offers up to $25,000 in reimbursements for qualifying organizations to cover eligible expenses incurred from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. To qualify, projects must meet a minimum 25% match of the total project costs. Currently, the commission is not accepting applications for multi-year grants.

This initiative highlights the PFBC’s efforts to enhance public engagement with fishing and boating, aiming to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for Pennsylvania’s water resources. Interested applicants can access more information and the necessary application materials on the PFBC’s official website.

By investing in these educational opportunities, the PFBC continues to support the state’s tradition of fishing and boating, ensuring that future generations can enjoy and benefit from Pennsylvania’s rich natural heritage.
