Boost for Boaters: PFBC Unveils 2025 Grant Awards to Transform Waterway Access

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has announced the first round of grant recipients for its 2025 Boating Facility Grant Program, targeting projects aimed at enhancing public boating access across the state’s waterways. These initial awards, each totaling $100,000 or less, will fund a range of improvements, including the construction, rehabilitation, and expansion of facilities.

The Boating Facility Grant Program is funded primarily through boat registration fees and state motorboat fuel taxes, with additional federal aid applied when applicable. The program is designed to benefit recreational boaters by ensuring convenient and high-quality access to Pennsylvania’s aquatic resources.

This year’s grants have been awarded to several notable projects:

Delaware River Watershed
  • Muhlenberg Township (Berks County): Construction of a canoe/kayak access at Pioneer Grove Park on the Schuylkill River.
  • Riverfront North Partnership (Philadelphia County): Dock improvements at the Frankford Boat Launch on the Delaware River.
  • Spring City Borough (Chester County): Amenities upgrades at the Spring City Boat Launch Park on the Schuylkill River.
  • Thornhurst Township (Lackawanna County): Development of access at Riverfront Park on the Lehigh River.
Ohio River Watershed
  • North Franklin Township (Washington County): Construction of a fishing dock and canoe/kayak launch at Reservoir Two.
Susquehanna River Watershed
  • Hanover Borough (York County): Installation of a non-motorized access area at Long Arm Reservoir.
  • Lewistown Borough (Mifflin County): Rehabilitation of the boat launch at Victory Park on the Juniata River.
  • Montgomery Borough (Lycoming County): Rehabilitation of the boat launch at Montgomery Borough Park on the West Branch Susquehanna River.
  • East Lampeter Township (Lancaster County): Design and construction of canoe/kayak access at Mill Creek.

PFBC officials confirmed that additional grants, exceeding $100,000, are expected to be announced later this year pending approval by the Board of Commissioners.

This initial funding aims to improve and expand the access to waterways in various communities within the Susquehanna River Watershed.
