HARRISBURG, PA — Caleb Schweikarth, a Bedford County resident, was sentenced this week to 7 to 14 years in prison following his conviction for sexually assaulting a young child. The shocking abuse began when the child was only seven years old, highlighting the deeply troubling nature of the case.
Schweikarth, 39, was found guilty by a jury in October on charges of indecent assault and corruption of minors. As a result of his conviction, he is now required to register for life under the Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
Attorney General Michelle Henry announced the sentencing, stating, “This defendant took advantage of a young child’s trust by subjecting the child to repeated sexual abuse over a period of years. This sentencing ensures that the defendant will be held accountable for his many crimes.”
Henry further emphasized her office’s commitment to protecting Pennsylvania’s children and holding those who sexually abuse and exploit them accountable.
The case proceedings revealed that Schweikarth had a close relationship with the victim and her family, which allowed him unsupervised access to the child for extended periods. It was during these times alone that Schweikarth committed the alleged abuse within the family home.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Joseph Sembrot prosecuted the case.
