MANHEIM, PA — On Friday, a new cohort of 59 cadets proudly graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, officially joining the ranks as state troopers. The graduation ceremony took place at LCBC Church in Manheim, marking the culmination of over six months of rigorous training and education.
Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher L. Paris addressed the graduates, acknowledging their dedication and perseverance. “Today is the result of a more than six-month commitment from a dedicated group of women and men who completed the intense training and extensive schooling necessary to become State Troopers,” Col. Paris stated. He praised their leadership and commitment to the mission of protecting and serving the state.
During the ceremony, six cadets were honored with special awards for their outstanding achievements. Zachery M. Buell received the American Legion Award for his exemplary overall performance. Bryce A. Buckwalter earned the Gesford High Pistol Award for his top score on the pistol qualification. Anthony S. Giacobbe was recognized with both the John K. Schafer Memorial Award for physical skills and the Colonel Ronald M. Sharpe Leadership Award. Derek W. Swope took home the Colonel Paul J. Chylak Memorial Driver Proficiency Award, and Trevor J. Knechel secured the Daniel F. Dunn High Scholastic Award for academic excellence.
The newly graduated troopers are set to report to their assigned troops across Pennsylvania on September 3, 2024. Their assignments span various locations, including Troop A in Greensburg, Troop B in Washington, and Troop E in Erie, among others. This diverse deployment reflects the PSP’s strategic approach to enhancing public safety across the Commonwealth.
