WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has begun distributing refund claim forms to consumers who purchased treatment plans deceptively marketed by Golden Sunrise Nutraceutical, Inc. These products falsely claimed to cure a range of serious conditions, including COVID-19, cancer, and Parkinson’s disease, resulting in significant financial losses for consumers.
The refunds stem from a June 2021 FTC order involving Dr. Stephen Meis, the medical director of Golden Sunrise. Dr. Meis settled charges that he played a key role in promoting a $23,000 treatment plan as a scientifically proven cure for COVID-19, despite the absence of valid supporting evidence. Other products marketed by Golden Sunrise were fraudulently claimed to treat cancer and Parkinson’s disease. The settlement, which barred Dr. Meis from making further unsupported health claims, required him to pay $103,420 to fund consumer refunds.
Refund notices are being mailed to 581 consumers who purchased specific Golden Sunrise products between July 2017 and July 2020. These treatment plans include the “Primary Plan of Care,” “Emergency D-Virus Plan of Care,” “Metabolic Plan of Care,” and “Cancer Plan of Care.” Consumers who are eligible can submit claims online. Refund amounts will vary based on the number of claims received and other factors.
The deadline to file a claim is April 6, 2025. Consumers can access assistance for claim submissions by calling 844-804-3922 or emailing info@goldensunriserefund.com. The FTC has reassured consumers that it does not charge fees or request sensitive financial information to facilitate claims or refunds.
The Commission’s action aims to provide relief to consumers who may have been misled by false claims made by Golden Sunrise.
