WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently announced it will distribute $5 million in grants to 13 organizations under the Veteran and Spouse Transitional Assistance Grant Program. This innovative program marks the first time such financial support is extended to the spouses of veterans, reflecting the recognition of the family’s role in the transition process.
The grants will enable these organizations to provide a range of employment-related services tailored to the needs of recently separated service members and their spouses. Services will include resume assistance, interview training, job recruitment guidance, and employment placement services. Additionally, the program will offer employment education, training, and referrals to enhance job readiness and success in the civilian workforce.
Under Secretary for Benefits Joshua Jacobs emphasized the importance of this initiative by noting the impact of the transition on both veterans and their families. “Each year, more than 200,000 service members make the transition to civilian life, and we know that journey doesn’t just affect the Veteran — it impacts their entire family,” he stated.
Organizations such as American Corporate Partners, Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, and the Greater New Bedford Workforce Investment Board are among the grant recipients, each receiving up to $500,000. These funds will be matched by the organizations to maximize the reach and impact of the services provided.
The program aims to empower veterans and their spouses by offering them the necessary tools and resources to thrive in their new careers, thereby enhancing the overall well-being and stability of military families as they navigate post-service life. The services are expected to commence in early 2025, providing timely support for those entering the job market.
