WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Education has announced a groundbreaking investment of nearly $50 million to bolster Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) across the nation. This funding aims to enhance educational opportunities for Hispanic and Latino students, reflecting the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to educational equity.

The investment is channeled through several key programs. The Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (PPOHA) program is allocating over $11 million to 16 institutions, focusing on expanding graduate opportunities and increasing Hispanic representation in the STEM workforce and education sectors.

The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) program is distributing more than $28 million across 49 grants to support HSIs in broadening educational access and improving Hispanic student outcomes. Additionally, the Augustus F. Hawkins Centers of Excellence Program is providing over $9.5 million to 16 HSIs, aiming to cultivate a diverse and well-prepared teaching force in underserved schools.

Lastly, the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP) is investing more than $1 million in four HSIs to enhance science and engineering education, promoting greater participation of minorities, particularly women, in STEM fields.

This financial commitment is set to open new doors of opportunity, supporting the aspirations and futures of Hispanic and Latino students across the country.
