SSA Introduces Digital Access to Social Security Numbers

Social Security Administration

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Social Security Administration (SSA) has launched a new digital feature that will allow my Social Security account holders to securely access their Social Security numbers (SSN) online. This initiative aims to modernize access to SSNs while enhancing security and convenience for the American public.

The digital SSN will provide users the ability to view their SSN safely through the my Social Security portal on mobile devices. This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals who have misplaced their physical SSN cards or forgotten their numbers, as it reduces the need for in-person visits or waiting for replacement cards to arrive by mail. Additionally, this approach is expected to mitigate risks associated with lost or stolen physical SSN cards.

“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure. We believe that this modern approach will meet the needs of our constituents in a more efficient manner.”

The SSA has designed the feature with the highest levels of security to protect sensitive personal information. By replacing the dependency on a physical card with a secure digital option, the agency is emphasizing both ease of access and the safety of user data.
