PHILADELPHIA, PASenator Dave McCormick (R-Pennsylvania) attended the NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, March 22, joining President Donald J. Trump and a group of current and former government officials. The event celebrated outstanding athletic achievements and honored the dedication and resilience of collegiate athletes.

McCormick, a former wrestler at West Point, lauded the remarkable performance of the Penn State Nittany Lions, who secured their 12th national championship in the past 14 tournaments under the leadership of Coach Cael Sanderson. “Carter Starocci’s incredible victory tonight makes him the first 5-time NCAA wrestling champion ever,” McCormick noted, highlighting the historic nature of the evening. “Coach Sanderson has built what continues to be the greatest dynasty in the history of college sports. More importantly, he has instilled lessons of character and grit in these young men that will shape the rest of their lives.”

The championships also marked a standout season for McCormick’s alma mater, West Point. The senator praised their accomplishments, including sending seven wrestlers to the NCAA tournament, winning the southern scuffle, and triumphing over Navy in their storied rivalry.

McCormick was joined at the event by Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma) and Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), both former collegiate wrestlers, as well as Pennsylvania Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Dan Meuser (PA-09), Scott Perry (PA-10), and John Joyce (PA-13).
