WASHINGTON, D.C. — FEMA’s Ready Campaign and the Ad Council have teamed up with DreamWorks Animation’s film Dog Man, based on Dav Pilkey’s best-selling book series, for a nationwide public service advertising (PSA) campaign. The initiative, which kicked off last Friday, aims to educate children and their families on the importance of emergency preparedness through relatable and engaging storytelling.

The PSAs feature Dog Man, a beloved canine crime-fighter, delivering a crucial message about planning for emergencies. The campaign includes billboards, bus shelter advertisements, and short video spots—offered in both English and Spanish—that are airing on donated media nationwide. The character’s planning skills align with FEMA’s goal to involve children in disaster preparedness efforts.

“Empowering our children to be active participants in disaster preparedness is vital to creating a more prepared nation,” said Lucas Hitt, Acting Associate Administrator for FEMA’s Office of External Affairs. “This collaboration presents a unique opportunity to engage America’s youth in a relatable and impactful way, harnessing the beloved characters of DreamWorks Animation’s Dog Man to give the entire family the tools they need to be ready for anything.”

The campaign builds on FEMA’s four-step preparedness approach:

  1. Be informed about potential emergencies and appropriate protective actions.
  2. Create a family emergency plan, including strategies for reunification.
  3. Assemble emergency supply kits for home, work, and vehicles.
  4. Get involved by supporting community preparedness efforts.

This collaboration continues the long-standing partnership between FEMA and the Ad Council, which launched the Ready Campaign in 2003. To date, the initiative has directed over 128 million visitors to its informational websites, Ready.gov and Listo.gov, helping Americans prepare for a range of disasters such as tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes.

DreamWorks Animation’s Dog Man hits theaters on January 31, 2025, and draws from the globally popular graphic novel series by Dav Pilkey. With more than 60 million copies in circulation and translations in 47 languages, the series—including its 2024 bestselling releases, Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder and Dog Man: Big Jim Begins—has captured the hearts of readers worldwide.

By leveraging the cultural impact of Dog Man, FEMA and its partners are striving to make emergency preparedness more accessible and engaging for children and their families. This campaign spotlights the value of involving younger generations in preparedness efforts, fostering a culture of readiness for future emergencies.
