The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been honored with the prestigious Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Luminary Award at the Annual ERM Summit. The award, presented by the Association for Federal Enterprise Risk Management (AFERM), recognizes federal agencies that demonstrate significant progress and notable achievements in ERM implementation and practice.
Held at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center in late November, the Annual ERM Summit celebrated four federal agencies, including the IRS, for their broad range of accomplishments in ERM.
Initiated in 2014, the IRS ERM program has evolved into a comprehensive and effective initiative. It has successfully integrated risk management capabilities across the organization, fostering a risk-aware culture and promoting resilience within the agency. These efforts have significantly contributed to informed managerial decision-making.
Marianne Roth, President of AFERM, praised the award winners during the summit. She said, “The award winners have shown how ERM has had a positive impact and made a difference, demonstrating the value that ERM can provide in helping agencies achieve and deliver on their goals and objectives.”
Roth acknowledged the challenges of implementing ERM in any organization, adding, “But these agencies have shown that it can be done, and in a manner that leverages existing risk management capabilities, ensures appropriate governance and aligns with strategy to improve and increase the likelihood of mission success.”
