WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and John Fetterman (D-PA) announced on Wednesday that Harrisburg International Airport (MDT) and Lancaster Airport (LNS) are set to receive a significant injection of federal funding. The two airports will receive grants totaling $7.5 million and $2.7 million respectively, as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airport Terminal Program.

The program, which was created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, aims to invest in the modernization and safety of airport infrastructure across the nation.

“This funding for South Central Pennsylvania’s airports will help get passengers where they need to go more quickly and safely while reducing passenger congestion,” said Senator Casey. He further underscored the significance of the investment as a driver of economic success for South Central Pennsylvania.

Echoing Casey’s sentiments, Senator Fetterman added, “This funding is another great example of how the Biden administration is delivering wins for Pennsylvania infrastructure and the economy of our Commonwealth.”

The funds allocated to Harrisburg International Airport will be used to replace up to six existing jet bridges, a move aimed at enhancing passenger boarding safety. This latest grant brings the total federal investments received by the airport since the start of 2021 to $60.2 million.

Lancaster Airport, on the other hand, will use its funding to expand its screening capacity and hold room areas. This expansion will enable the airport to handle a larger volume of passengers, improving efficiency and customer experience. The airport has received a total of $13.38 million in federal investments during the same period.

Overall, this financial boost for Harrisburg International and Lancaster Airports will not only improve the safety and efficiency of air travel in Pennsylvania, but also aims to contribute to the growth of the state’s economy. With these improvements, passengers can expect a smoother and more convenient boarding process while traveling through these airports. As the demand for air travel increases, it is crucial for airports to continuously upgrade their facilities to meet passenger needs and provide a positive experience. This federal funding is a step towards achieving that goal and ensuring that Pennsylvania remains a top destination for travelers.
