WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell has been appointed to the “Ambassador Circle” for America250, the official entity planning the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Rendell, one of eight national members, will help raise awareness and ensure an inclusive commemoration of this historic milestone.
America250 aims to create the largest and most inclusive celebration in history, engaging Americans from all walks of life. Each ambassador represents a different region, reinforcing this commitment. Joining Rendell are notable figures such as Senator Cory Gardner, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, singer Gloria Estefan, pop icon Lance Bass, businesswoman Darla Moore, and ABA President Mary Smith.
America250 Chair Rosie Rios praised the diverse group. “This esteemed cohort embodies the limitless potential of the American spirit,” she said. “Their involvement highlights the collaborative effort needed to reflect our nation’s diversity and vitality.”
Rendell expressed his honor at joining the circle. “Pennsylvania is deeply rooted in America’s founding history, and I am thrilled to represent Philadelphia and the Commonwealth as we approach the Semiquincentennial,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of following the leadership of Governor Josh Shapiro and Mayor Cherelle L. Parker to ensure Philadelphia’s central role in the celebrations.
The Ambassadors will work to advance America250’s mission, engage with the public, and build partnerships with individuals, corporations, and foundations. They will also provide strategic input on programming and initiatives both locally and nationally.
This initiative holds significant importance. The 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the nation’s past, celebrate its achievements, and envision its future. By involving a diverse group of ambassadors, America250 aims to create a commemoration that resonates with all Americans.
Rendell’s appointment brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to American history. As a former governor and mayor of Philadelphia, he understands the importance of engaging communities in meaningful ways. His participation will likely inspire others to contribute to this historic effort.
The America250 celebration promises to be a momentous occasion, fostering a sense of unity and pride across the nation. By highlighting the diverse stories and experiences that make up the American fabric, the event aims to honor the past while looking forward to a more inclusive and vibrant future.
