FDA Opens Search for New CDRH Director

Food and Drug Administration

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a national search for a new Director for the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). This follows the retirement of former Director Jeff Shuren. The position will remain open until August 27 as the FDA seeks a qualified candidate to lead the Center.

The CDRH Director plays a critical role. They are responsible for ensuring the safety, effectiveness, and quality of medical devices and radiation-emitting products. This mission is vital for protecting public health and providing patients and healthcare providers with reliable medical tools.

The hiring process for this position is being conducted under Title 21, Section 3072 of the 21st Century Cures Act. This streamlined hiring authority allows the FDA to expedite the selection process for key positions.

As the FDA embarks on this search, the new director will be tasked with upholding the high standards set by the CDRH. This includes making sure that new medical devices are safe and effective, and that patients have timely access to these innovations.
