WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that TreeHouse Foods, Inc. is undertaking a voluntary recall of certain frozen waffle products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
This recall highlights serious public health concerns, as Listeria can lead to severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly among young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infections pose significant risks of miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The affected frozen waffle products were distributed throughout the United States and Canada, packaged under several brand names. The recall decision follows routine testing at the manufacturing facility that identified the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in specific product batches. TreeHouse Foods has confirmed that, to date, there have been no reports of illness linked to the recalled items.
Consumers and retailers are advised to check the UPC on the back of the carton, along with the Lot Code and Best By Date located on the end of the carton, to identify the affected products. For visual assistance, photos of the impacted products can be accessed through the company’s official site.
In response to the discovery, TreeHouse Foods urges consumers to either dispose of the affected products or return them to the place of purchase for a full credit. The company has also set up a dedicated consumer hotline at 800-596-2903, available from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST, to address any customer inquiries or concerns.
The FDA and TreeHouse Foods are closely collaborating to ensure the swift removal of potentially contaminated products from the market, reinforcing the company’s commitment to consumer safety and adherence to regulatory standards.
