WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a precautionary recall by Jack and the Green Sprouts, Inc., based in River Falls, Wisconsin. This recall pertains to their 5-ounce packages of Alfalfa and Alfalfa Onion sprouts, which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium poses significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

While no illnesses have yet been reported, the recall affects products distributed across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa, available in grocery stores and local cooperatives. The affected packages can be identified by lot numbers #300 and #246, with UPC codes 763247198915 and 763247195945, respectively.

Listeria monocytogenes infection can lead to severe health complications, including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, the infection poses a particularly grave risk, potentially resulting in miscarriages or stillbirths.

The potential contamination was discovered during routine company testing, prompting an immediate halt in production as Jack and the Green Sprouts investigates the source of the issue. In response, consumers who purchased the implicated products are advised to discard them or return them to the store of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries, the company has provided a customer service line at 715-425-9495, operational weekdays from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
