WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon and 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon by Colonna Brothers of North Bergen, NJ. The recall is due to elevated lead levels discovered in the products.

Health Risks

Lead exposure poses significant health risks. Short-term exposure to low levels of lead may not show symptoms, but increased blood lead levels can be an indicator. Prolonged exposure can result in severe health problems. In children, it can cause permanent damage to the central nervous system, leading to developmental defects and learning disorders. In adults, chronic exposure is linked to kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

Distribution and Identification

The affected cinnamon products were distributed nationwide through retail stores and mail order. They come in clear plastic jars labeled either “Marcum Cinnamon Ground 1.5oz” or “Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon 2.25oz.” The following lot numbers have been identified as affected:

Consumers who have purchased the affected cinnamon products can discard them or return them to the store for a full refund.
