WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall by Gutierrez Distributor of Passaic, NJ, involving El Servidor Corp brand ground cinnamon. The recall is due to potential contamination with elevated levels of lead. Lead exposure, even at low levels, can result in adverse health effects, particularly in children. Symptoms may be subtle, with elevated blood lead levels being the only initial sign of exposure.

El Servidor Corp ground cinnamon, in a 1.5-ounce clear plastic bag, has been distributed to retail stores in New York since January 14, 2024. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets conducted sample analysis revealing the contamination. Consequently, production and distribution of the product have been halted.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. The FDA and Gutierrez Distributor are investigating the cause of the contamination. For further information, consumers can contact the company at (973) 777-1851, Monday to Friday, 8 AM-5 PM EST.
