WASHINGTON, D.C. — Asli Fine Foods, based in Woodridge, IL, has initiated a recall of its Asli Cinnamon Powder 7 oz due to potential lead contamination, as announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This recall highlights serious health risks associated with lead exposure, particularly concerning for both children and adults.

The cinnamon powder, packaged in 7 oz plastic bags with LOT# DDDLUS and UPC# 703440150723, was distributed in retail stores across Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio. The recall emerged after a routine sampling by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services detected lead in the product. Consequently, the company has halted production and distribution while collaborating with the FDA to investigate the contamination source.

Lead exposure can affect nearly every system in the body. In children, prolonged exposure can lead to permanent damage to the central nervous system, resulting in learning disabilities and developmental issues. Adults may experience kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and cognitive impairments. Despite these risks, no illnesses have been reported as of August 29, 2024.

Consumers who purchased the affected cinnamon powder are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries, Asli Fine Foods can be contacted at 630-739-1599.
