HARRISBURG, PA — Mackenzie W. Smith, Esq., has been confirmed by the Pennsylvania Senate as a judge on the Chester County Court of Common Pleas. The vote, held Tuesday, February 4, 2025, follows her nomination by Governor Josh Shapiro, marking a significant advancement in Smith’s judicial career.

“I am incredibly grateful to Governor Shapiro for appointing me and to the Pennsylvania Senate for confirming my nomination to the Court of Common Pleas, and I look forward to continuing to serve our Chester County community,” Smith stated following her confirmation. “Having the trust of the Governor and our Senate leaders is a tremendous honor, and I promise to uphold my same judicial values – ensuring equal access to justice for everyone, treating the community with care and dignity, and delivering on our constitutional guarantees of due process and equal justice for all.”

Smith has served as a magisterial district judge for Malvern, East Goshen, Easttown, Willistown, and parts of Tredyffrin and Westtown since 2021. Her election to that role marked a decisive victory, as she defeated a three-term incumbent. Her tenure as a district judge is marked by her commitment to accessible justice and her dedication to the communities she serves.

The Courts of Common Pleas play a critical role in Pennsylvania’s judicial system, overseeing major civil and criminal cases. Smith’s appointment fills one of two vacant seats on the Chester County bench. She will complete the existing term, which expires at the end of 2025, while concurrently campaigning for election to a full 10-year term.

The Pennsylvania primary election is set for May 20, 2025, with the general election following on November 4. Smith’s campaign will continue as she works to secure voter support for her continued service to Chester County.
