ROYERSFORD, PA — State Senator Katie Muth (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks) is joining forces with several state representatives and PennDOT experts to host an informational webinar aimed at helping Pennsylvanians better understand the upcoming REAL ID requirements. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, at 6:30 p.m., and seeks to provide clarity on the process of obtaining a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or photo ID card.
The webinar will feature participation from state representatives Joe Ciresi, Paul Friel, Danielle Friel-Otten, Kristine Howard, Melissa Shusterman, Joe Webster, and Dan Williams. Experts from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will also be on hand to provide insights and answer questions. Interested participants can register in advance and submit their questions online. For those unable to attend live, the webinar will be livestreamed and made available for on-demand viewing.
May 7, 2025, marks the federal deadline for compliance with REAL ID requirements. After this date, Pennsylvanians must present a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/photo ID card or another federally accepted form of identification, such as a passport or military ID, to board domestic commercial flights or gain access to federal buildings and military facilities requiring identification. While obtaining a REAL ID is optional, it can significantly simplify travel and access to federal facilities for those who choose to opt in.
The webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of necessary documentation, such as proof of identity, social security number, legal name changes (if applicable), and current Pennsylvania residency. Participants will also have an opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A portion of the program.
Senator Muth highlighted the significance of ensuring Pennsylvanians are well-informed about REAL ID requirements before the deadline. She explained that the webinar aims to help residents prepare for the May 2025 deadline, whether by obtaining a REAL ID or considering other federally accepted identification options. She also noted that collaboration with colleagues and PennDOT is essential to simplifying the process and reducing stress for constituents.
Participation in the webinar requires prior registration on Zoom; however, it will also be livestreamed online at www.SenatorMuth.com/REALID. For added convenience, a recording of the webinar will be made available on-demand after the live event at www.SenatorMuth.com.
This informational event is poised to play a vital role in raising awareness and addressing concerns about REAL ID compliance. By offering valuable resources and direct access to experts, the webinar aims to equip participants with the tools they need to make informed decisions. Looking ahead, Senator Muth and her team remain focused on providing ongoing support to help residents successfully prepare for the federal deadline.
