WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has unveiled a new national campaign titled ‘Risk Less. Do More.’ This initiative aims to educate the public on the importance of vaccines for combating influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), especially among high-risk groups.

HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra highlighted the life-saving impact of these vaccines, noting their role in reducing hospitalizations and providing peace of mind. “As fall approaches and people spend more time indoors, I encourage everyone to protect themselves and their loved ones by getting vaccinated,” Becerra stated. The campaign underscores the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to delivering accessible health information across diverse demographics.

The U.S. faces significant challenges from respiratory viruses, which led to 800,000 hospitalizations over the past winter. Vulnerable populations, including seniors, long-term care residents, pregnant individuals, and rural communities, face elevated risks. Certain racial and ethnic groups, such as Black and Hispanic populations, are also disproportionately affected.

Jeffery A Nesbit, HHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, explained the campaign’s objective: “The goal of the Risk Less. Do More. campaign is to increase confidence in vaccines that play an important role in preventing severe illness from these viruses.”

The campaign will employ a broad media strategy, utilizing TV, radio, print, social media, and digital platforms to disseminate its message. It focuses on reaching those with limited access to healthcare information, ensuring they receive reliable, research-based vaccine facts. Collaboration with state and local health departments, as well as community organizations, will further extend the campaign’s reach.

May Malik, Senior Advisor for Public Education Campaigns at HHS, emphasized the campaign’s collaborative efforts: “Risk Less. Do More. will be a crucial element of a multi-layered response to encourage people to get vaccinated so they can keep doing more of what they love.”

By fostering vaccine confidence and promoting education, ‘Risk Less. Do More.’ seeks to mitigate the impact of respiratory viruses and empower Americans to make informed health decisions this fall and winter.
