BRYN MAWR, PA — Four acute care hospitals under the Main Line Health banner have each received an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group for fall 2023. This prestigious recognition underscores their commitment to excellence in patient care and safety.
The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog, assigns grades to nearly 3,000 hospitals across the United States. The grading system is based on up to 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. It also takes into account the systems that hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
Main Line Health’s Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital, and Riddle Hospital all received the highest grade, demonstrating their relentless focus on patient safety and care.
“Nothing takes higher priority than the safety of our patients,” said Jack Lynch, FACHE, President and CEO, Main Line Health. “I am thrilled that the Leapfrog grading system, which is based on a deep dive into federal data, shows that no matter which Main Line Health hospital a patient chooses, they can count on the same commitment and rigorous effort to ensure their safety.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is based on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services performance measures. It is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the spring and fall. The recent fall grades were primarily based on post-pandemic data, including health care-associated infections and the patient experience.
“Earning an A grade means Main Line Health’s acute care hospitals made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, board, clinicians, staff, and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
