PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — In the constantly evolving field of medical science, staying updated with the latest advancements is crucial, and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®) is leading the charge in the field of oncology. The NCCN, an alliance of prominent cancer centers, recently announced several significant updates to the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®), the most frequently updated guidelines in any medical field, used by cancer care providers around the globe to stay ahead of the curve.

The recently published revisions cover several high-incidence cancer types, including breast, colorectal, lung, and pancreatic. The full details of these updates, along with the supporting evidence, will be presented at the NCCN 2024 Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida, from April 5-7. “The multidisciplinary panels of experts who maintain the NCCN Guidelines work tirelessly to keep these resources current for busy clinicians,” said Crystal S. Denlinger, MD, and CEO of NCCN.

NCCN Guidelines have become an invaluable resource in the fight against cancer. They were downloaded more than 15 million times globally in 2023 alone, setting a new record for the organization. This shows the pressing need for comprehensive oncology guidance in the healthcare industry.

Key updates to the NCCN Guidelines include recommendations for the treatment of HR-positive, early-stage breast cancer, guidance on POLE/POLD1 mutation testing for colon and rectal cancer, new chemotherapy options for metastatic pancreatic cancer, and revisions to the Hereditary RCC Syndromes Overview for kidney cancer. All updates can be viewed online without charge at NCCN.org or via the NCCN Guidelines® App.

The NCCN 2024 Annual Conference will also showcase more than 200 poster abstracts featuring groundbreaking research. Apart from the updates, conference session topics will cover genetics/hereditary risk, vaccinations for cancer survivors, preventative care, managing drug shortages, and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in oncology and healthcare.

“The NCCN Annual Conference presents a unique opportunity to engage with experts and colleagues in the field, gaining critical knowledge and perspective on the most significant issues facing the oncology community,” said Dr. Denlinger. The conference is not just a meeting of minds but a fulcrum for change, aiming to improve the lives of cancer patients everywhere.
