BERWYN, PA — In an effort to combat the effects of stormwater runoff and flooding, Tredyffrin Township has been awarded over $2.2 million in grant funding from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The funds, allotted as part of the 2022 H2O PA Commonwealth Stormwater Grants, will be directed towards two critical stormwater management and improvement projects located in Trout Creek.

The announcement came via Senator Comitta’s office on December 19, 2023, following a meeting of the Commonwealth’s CFA Board to discuss grant applications and awards. The successful bid marks a significant stride for Tredyffrin Township, enabling the Engineering Department to press ahead with Phase 1 of the Gregory Lane and Willis/Woodcrest/Upper Weadley Road Stormwater Improvement Projects.

Tredyffrin Township expressed gratitude to Senator Comitta and Representative Shusterman for their continued advocacy for the township’s stormwater management initiatives. The pair have been instrumental in securing backing for the Gregory Lane and Willis/Woodcrest/Upper Weadley Road projects, which aim to address longstanding community concerns around water quality and flood mitigation.

The grant will bolster the township’s efforts to reduce pollutants from stormwater runoff and decrease the volume and rate of runoff flowing into Trout Creek during rainfall events. The projects are expected to bring significant relief to local property owners, residents, and businesses who have experienced repeated flooding and damage from heavy rains.

Supplementing the state grant, additional funding from Tredyffrin Township, County ARPA, and Commonwealth DCED Grants will aid in the completion of the design and construction phases of these two stormwater projects. The combined resources underscore a concerted effort to address stormwater issues head-on and offer tangible improvements to the local community.

The township is keen to start work on these projects, with completion expected between 2024 and 2026. The grant award will be formally recognized at the January 16, 2024 Board of Supervisors meeting, offering an opportunity for the community to learn more about the planned improvements and celebrate this significant step forward in local stormwater management.
