WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe have officially appointed Susanne Fink as the Director of the Chester County Department of Veterans Affairs. Fink, who has been serving as Acting Director since August, brings a robust portfolio of professional and personal experiences that uniquely qualify her for this role dedicated to supporting veterans and their families.
The commissioners collectively praised Fink’s appointment, emphasizing her extensive background in mental health and her commitment to veterans. “Susie Fink brings a wealth of professional and personal experience to Veterans Affairs and the many programs and services provided by the department that support veterans and their families,” they stated. Over the past five years, Fink has worked as a mental health diversion specialist with Chester County’s Department of Mental Health/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Her contributions were pivotal in establishing the County’s Crisis Intervention Team, which enhances law enforcement’s ability to interact effectively with individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
Fink’s expertise in the behavioral health field has long intersected with veterans’ services, as evidenced by her recent role on the Chester County Veterans Advisory Council. Her deep-seated dedication to veterans’ welfare is further underscored by her personal connections to military service. Her father’s service in the Navy during the Vietnam War, her husband’s career as a retired Army veteran, her stepsons’ military service, and her uncle’s Marine background provide Fink with a profound understanding of veterans’ needs and challenges.
Pat Bokovitz, Director of Chester County Department of Human Services, highlighted Fink’s personal and professional qualifications, noting, “Susie Fink understands the complex issues that veterans often face when returning from active service, and she appreciates the importance of helping veterans access all the services they are entitled to receive. Susie will serve our veterans well.”
Fink’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Social Work and a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies from Cairn University, as well as a Master of Human Services degree from Lincoln University. Her diverse educational background complements her extensive practical experience, aligning with the department’s mission to provide comprehensive support to veterans and their families.
As Fink steps into her new role, she embodies the Department of Veterans Affairs’ commitment to advancing the welfare of those who have served. Her leadership is anticipated to bring innovative approaches and enhanced services to the county’s veteran community, ensuring they receive the support and recognition they deserve.
