PHILADELPHIA, PA — Senator Vincent Hughes and the PA Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) have announced over $4.4 million in affordable housing grants through the Housing Options Program (HOP). These investments, resulting from Senator Hughes’ leadership and advocacy, will help keep affordable housing accessible and combat gentrification in Pennsylvania.

“I’m proud to see housing investments I fought for in Harrisburg go to projects that will improve lives. What HOP does, simply, is to keep affordable housing affordable, and not get lost to gentrification,” said Senator Hughes. “Affordable housing is a cornerstone of every safe and thriving community. When we provide affordable housing options and maintain units that are already available, we lay the foundation for people to keep a job, make sure their children get a good education, and ensure the overall safety of neighborhoods.”

A total of 375 affordable units will be safeguarded across multiple counties in Pennsylvania through the allocation of grants. The Housing Options Program, administered by PHFA, aims to both preserve existing affordable housing units and increase the availability of such housing throughout the state. This initial funding round was designated for projects requiring urgent repairs, with PHFA committed to reviewing applications and announcing subsequent funding opportunities in the future.
