WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Sheriff’s Office has announced the hiring of five new deputies and the promotion of a deputy to corporal. This development is part of the office’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and strengthen its team.
Sheriff Kevin Dykes expressed his enthusiasm for the new hires. “We are thrilled to welcome Deputy Nicholas Fernandez, recipient of the Police Academy’s Physical Conditioning Award; Deputy Angel Chimal Rodrigues, recipient of the Police Academy’s Academic Achievement Award; and Deputy Ernesto Pinda. These deputies have completed their training at the Delaware County Community College’s Police Academy and have shown exceptional skills and dedication to law enforcement,” he said.
The office also hired Deputy Brett Popiny, who brings over a decade of experience from the Telford Borough Police Department, and Kiri Burgos, promoted from Security Operator to Deputy after two years with the agency.
In addition to the new hires, Kelly McGonigal, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office for four years, has been promoted from Deputy to Corporal. Sheriff Dykes noted that these promotions reflect the individuals’ dedication and contributions to the department’s mission.
Since taking office, the new administration has hired 20 staff members and implemented an aggressive recruitment and retention plan. This includes expanding their digital presence and recruiting via social media to attract a diverse pool of candidates.
“In spite of the challenges we face both locally and nationally with law enforcement hiring, I am extremely proud of our agency’s commitment to staffing the best deputies in Chester County,” said Sheriff Dykes. “I am delighted to welcome our new deputies and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make in ensuring public safety throughout the county.”
