WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County Park Ranger Jessa Goodeaux has been appointed to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (DCNR) NextGen Advisory Council. This significant appointment highlights her commitment to fostering connections between young Pennsylvanians and the state’s public lands, natural resources, and recreational opportunities.
Ranger Goodeaux, whose career in parks and recreation was inspired by the observed benefits of open spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic, is dedicated to enhancing accessibility and safety in parks. Her focus is on increasing outdoor recreation opportunities for diverse communities, including young veterans and women, while also supporting her peers in the parks and recreation sector. “I applied to the DCNR NextGen Council with the goal of inspiring young people to take advantage of our public lands by increasing their levels of comfort and safety within, and access to parks and open spaces,” stated Goodeaux.
Chester County Parks + Preservation Director Dave Stauffer praised Ranger Goodeaux’s appointment, noting her leadership qualities and dedication to public service. “Ranger Goodeaux’s leadership skills and passion for public service make her an excellent addition to the DCNR NextGen Council. We are proud to have her representing Chester County at the state level and know that her contributions will help to advance the Council’s goals,” he said.
The DCNR established the NextGen Advisory Council in 2022 to broaden public engagement and diversify the perspectives influencing its programs and operations. The council aims to ensure that upcoming generations can meaningfully connect with Pennsylvania’s abundant natural offerings.
Ranger Goodeaux’s dual roles as a park ranger and an Army Reserve officer reflect her lifelong dedication to serving the public. Her participation in the council is expected to further these objectives, aligning with DCNR’s mission to promote inclusivity and active participation in preserving and enjoying Pennsylvania’s natural heritage.
