WEST CHESTER, PA — On September 25, 2024, Keiretsu Forum Mid-Atlantic and The Cottrell Entrepreneurship Center at West Chester University will host a special screening of the documentary “Show Her The Money” at Sykes Theater. This film delves into the struggles women entrepreneurs face in securing venture capital. Directed by Ky Dickens and produced by Catherine Gray, it features stories of resilience and success, including insights from Emmy-winning Sharon Gless.
The documentary highlights a vital issue: despite owning 38% of businesses, female founders receive just 2% of venture capital funding. It also points out that women-owned businesses offer double the return on investment compared to their male counterparts, according to Boston Consulting Group research in 2023.
Following the screening, a panel discussion will explore these themes further. Panelists include Jasmine Jones, CEO of Myya, and Yasmine Mustafa, CEO of ROAR for Good. Dr. Louise Yochee Klein will moderate. This event provides a platform for networking and discussion, aiming to inspire change in venture capital practices for women entrepreneurs.
Pocket Sun, featured in the film, emphasizes the need to challenge the status quo, urging for a shift from the mere 2% of capital investment women currently receive. Tickets for the event are $20 and available online, offering attendees a chance to connect with local business leaders and support an inclusive entrepreneurial landscape.
