KENNETT SQUARE, PA — In a move that strengthens its position as a leading North American mushroom supplier, South Mill Champs has announced a 50/50 joint venture with Grupo APAL. The partnership, operating under the name Royal Champs S. de R.L. de C.V., will oversee the development and operation of composting and mushroom-growing sites across Mexico.

This cross-border collaboration is part of South Mill Champs’ strategic plan to modernize and lead innovation in the mushroom industry across North America. The venture will primarily focus on producing mushrooms for import into South Mill Champs’ extensive supply chain in the United States and Canada.

“This expansion reflects a strategic step forward in our commitment to delivering the freshest and highest quality mushrooms daily from coast to coast,” said Mike Pia Jr., Vice President of Business Growth at South Mill Champs. He added that the partnership would leverage South Mill Champs’ expansive expertise in mushroom production and supply chain management.

The Mexican expansion follows recent developments in British Columbia and Pennsylvania, further showcasing South Mill Champs’ commitment to growth and innovation in the mushroom industry.

Armando Paredes Arroyo, President of Grupo APAL, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We are thrilled to partner with South Mill Champs to expand the mushroom production industry in Mexico,” he said. “Our expertise in food production and logistics in Mexico combined with SMC’s proven leadership in this industry will ensure the successful execution of this exciting project.”

Grupo APAL, a private investment company led by dairy producer and shareholder of Alpura, Mr. Paredes Arroyo, brings valuable experience in food production and logistics to the venture.

Royal Champs plans to break ground later this year on a state-of-the-art, Dutch-style, integrated mushroom facility. The 257-acre site near Queretaro, Mexico, will include phase 3 compost, mushroom-growing farms, and packing operations.

Headquartered in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, South Mill Champs is a leading vertically integrated grower and supplier of North American fresh mushrooms and functional mushroom foods. With operations spanning British Columbia, Manitoba, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, the company has established itself as an innovative and customer-focused supplier in the industry. The new venture with Grupo APAL marks a significant step in South Mill Champs’ ongoing expansion and commitment to excellence in the mushroom industry.
