VALLEY FORGE, PA — PJM announced a groundbreaking partnership with Google and Tapestry to incorporate AI-driven tools aimed at revolutionizing the process of connecting new generation resources to the nation’s largest electrical grid. This multiyear collaboration seeks to accelerate interconnection processing times to meet the growing demand within PJM’s 13-state service area and Washington, D.C.
The initiative, powered by Google Cloud and Google DeepMind technologies, will leverage Tapestry’s advanced AI capabilities to optimize PJM’s generation interconnection planning process. This effort is expected to streamline the review of new service applications, enabling faster and more accurate processing while maintaining grid reliability.
“Innovation will be critical to meeting the demands on the future grid, and we’re leveraging some of the world’s best capabilities with these cutting-edge tools to further reduce completion times for New Service Requests,” said Aftab Khan, PJM’s Executive Vice President of Operations, Planning & Security.
Tapestry aims to develop AI tools specifically tailored to PJM’s needs, offering intelligent decision-making support to ensure a seamless interconnection process. “AI can play a pivotal role in improving and expanding the electricity system while maintaining reliability and security,” said Page Crahan, Tapestry’s General Manager.
This collaboration highlights the potential for artificial intelligence to address one of the industry’s major challenges. Amanda Peterson Corio, Head of Data Center Energy at Google, emphasized, “This initiative brings together our most advanced technologies to help solve one of the greatest challenges of the AI era – evolving our electricity systems to meet this moment.”
With the demand for energy continuing to rise, this partnership aims to enhance the grid’s capacity to interconnect additional resources effectively and sustain the growing energy needs of the region.
