WEST GROVE, PA — The Simpson Foundation has awarded $83,000 in scholarships to 36 employees at Jenner’s Pond, a senior living facility. This financial support, presented on July 13th, aims to help recipients continue their education and advance their careers.
Jim Clancy, executive director of Jenner’s Pond, celebrated the scholarship program’s impact. “The Employee Scholarship Fund allows us to recognize and nurture the talent within our community, ensuring our residents receive the highest quality of care,” said Clancy.
The scholarship program, supported by resident donations, has expanded each year. In 2024, it included ten new scholars, sixteen returning scholars, and ten workshop participants. New scholarship recipients include Katherine Albietz, Olivia Edwards, and others, while returning scholars feature Ellie Arthur, Jesus Cordova-Rangel, and several more.
Phylicia Hurtt, a culinary associate studying Psychology at West Chester University, expressed her gratitude. “Being chosen for this scholarship means the world to me, and it inspires me to keep striving both personally and professionally,” Hurtt said.
Managed by a committee of residents and Simpson Foundation staff, the scholarship program aims to utilize all contributions fully each year. Crystal Margerison, general manager of dining at Jenner’s Pond, emphasized the program’s positive impact. “It’s truly inspiring to see our staff gain confidence and grow over time, engaging deeply with the residents,” Margerison noted.
The implications of this scholarship program extend beyond individual beneficiaries. By investing in the education of its employees, Jenner’s Pond enhances the quality of care for its residents. Well-trained and motivated staff are more likely to provide high-quality service, directly benefiting the senior community.
Additionally, the scholarships contribute to broader social goals. They promote career advancement and financial stability for employees, many of whom are pursuing higher education for the first time. This can create a ripple effect, encouraging other employees to seek similar opportunities.
Simpson, a not-for-profit organization, has a long history of caring for older adults across various services, including senior living communities, home care, and therapy. The organization continues to innovate, recently opening a Memory Garden designed for residents with dementia.
Overall, the scholarships provided by the Simpson Foundation represent a strategic investment in both the employees and residents of Jenner’s Pond, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality care.
