EXTON, PA — West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (NYSE: WST) introduced its new Daikyo Crystal Zenith® (CZ) Nested Vials in Tub at the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy (ISCT) Annual Meeting in Vancouver, Canada. The event ran from May 29 to June 1.
Designed to adhere to the glass standard ISO-8362-1, these CZ vials offer a reliable containment solution for cell and gene therapies, radiopharmaceuticals, and sensitive molecules. Key attributes include maintaining container closure integrity even at cryogenic temperatures, ensuring superior functional recovery of viral vectors, and displaying low particulate specifications (2% USP <788>). Additionally, they boast break resistance and a low risk of chemical interaction, making them suitable for advanced therapies.
“West has been at the forefront of pharmaceutical packaging for over 100 years and is the market leader for containment solutions for cell and gene therapy treatments,” said Cindy Reiss-Clark, Chief Commercial Officer at West. “This new offering expands the CZ platform to provide packaging configuration options for flexible filling solutions of sensitive molecules.”
The CZ nested vials come in 2mL and 10mL sizes with ISO 8362-1 exterior dimensions. They offer flexible closure solutions with crimped closures using NovaPure® stoppers or PLASCAP® press-fit closures with Daikyo stoppers to meet manual, semi-automated, or automated capping requirements.
The ready-to-use nested vials are layered with a Tyvek® slip sheet, heat sealed with a breathable Tyvek® lid, double bagged, and sterilized. This design ensures the vials’ protection during transit and enhances machinability.
West’s new CZ vials are set to revolutionize storage and packaging for gene therapy drugs, addressing needs from preclinical to commercial phases. For stakeholders in cell and gene therapy, this innovation promises enhanced safety and efficiency in drug containment and delivery.
