Vishay Unveils WSBE Series Shunt Resistors with Industry-Low TCR

Vishay Intertechnology

MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has launched its advanced WSBE series Power Metal Strip® shunt resistors, which feature an industry-low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) down to ±10 ppm/°C. Qualified under AEC-Q200 standards, these devices are designed for demanding applications in automotive, energy, industrial, and space sectors.

The WSBE series offers ultra-low resistance values starting from 15 µΩ and power ratings reaching 50 W. This breakthrough stems from a solid metal resistive element combined with Vishay’s patented TCR mitigation technology, which eliminates the need for temperature compensation and simplifies calibration. By reducing the number of components and enhancing design efficiency, the series helps lower production costs and increase accuracy.

Available in the 8518 and 8536 case sizes, the resistors are optimized for high-current applications, capable of handling up to 1825 A with lifetime stability of 1%. Their all-welded construction ensures reliability, while low inductance (< 5 nH) and thermal EMF (< 1.25 µV/°C) make them ideal for precision systems.

“These resistors are a game-changer for battery management systems (BMS), charging infrastructure for EVs and HEVs, and other energy applications,” commented a Vishay spokesperson. They also support energy monitoring, UPS battery backups, industrial inverters, and satellite systems, offering enhanced performance across an operating temperature range of -65 °C to +170 °C.

RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green, the WSBE series underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable, high-performance solutions for emerging technological needs.
