MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH), a global manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components, announced that it has upgraded its TSOP18xx, TSOP58xx, and TSSP5xx series of infrared (IR) receiver modules.
These enhanced solutions, offered in Minicast packages, serve as drop-in, plug and play replacements for existing devices in the series, but with notable improvements. These include 50% lower current consumption, bolstered ESD robustness to 12 kV, an extended supply voltage range from 2.0 V to 5.5 V, 20 % higher dark-ambient sensitivity, and superior performance under intense DC light.
The latest upgrades signify a substantial leap forward in IR technology. Devices in these series are composed of a photodetector, preamplifier circuit, and IR filter housed in a single package. Their reduced current consumption over a broader voltage range enhances battery life in mobile devices, making these modules ideal for outdoor applications due to their robustness under bright sunlight.
The TSOP18xx and TSOP58xx series have been tailored for IR remote control in various consumer electronics such as televisions, video game systems, air conditioners, and more. These devices offer increased robustness against disturbances such as IR emissions from different kinds of lamps. They remain insensitive to supply voltage variations and ripple noise, offering a wide range of carrier frequencies from 30 kHz to 56 kHz and six automatic gain control (AGC) versions for short and long burst codes.
On the other hand, the TSSP5xx series fixed-gain IR receiver modules provide long-range proximity and presence sensing up to 2 meters. When paired with the TSAL6200 emitter, they can be used for light barrier applications up to 8 meters. These devices are perfect for sensing distances for toys, drones, robots, and even as reflective sensors for hand dryers, vending machine fall detection, and security gates.
Vishay’s decision to upgrade these IR receivers using its latest in-house IC technology ensures the long-term availability of the products and reduces lead times for its customers. More importantly, as drop-in replacements for existing devices, these modules can help save costs by eliminating the need for PCB redesigns.
The introduction of these upgraded IR receiver modules is a game-changer. It showcases the power of innovation in enhancing product performance and durability while also offering cost-effective solutions.
