EXTON, PA — The US Army has selected the ThrustSense® Autothrottle system, developed by Innovative Solutions & Support, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISSC), to enhance the operational capabilities of its C-12 aircraft. This cutting-edge technology will be integrated into aircraft equipped with ProLine 21 avionics, offering full flight envelope protection from takeoff to landing.
The ThrustSense Autothrottle system is designed to automatically manage engine power settings, significantly reducing pilot workload and improving safety. It computes and adjusts power levels to maintain optimal descent speeds and safeguard against critical conditions such as overtorque, overtemperature, and inappropriate speed scenarios. The system also provides protection against VMCa, ensuring directional control by modulating engine power as needed.
Installation of the ThrustSense system is straightforward, requiring no structural changes to the throttle quadrant and minimal aircraft downtime. Its Integrated Standby Unit (ISU) not only controls the autothrottle but also upgrades standby functionality, making it an ideal retrofit for existing aircraft.
Larry Riddle, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at IS&S, stated, “With the King Air’s versatility across a broad range of missions, operators are increasingly focused on improving operational efficiency and reducing crew workload. ThrustSense is a perfect example of how IS&S is leading the way in cockpit automation, enhancing both safety and performance.”
The ThrustSense Autothrottle is globally certified for several aircraft models, including the Beechcraft King Air B200 and B300, and is standard on newer King Air models. The system is also compatible with Pilatus PC-12 platforms, with retrofit options available through authorized IS&S service centers worldwide.
This contract, awarded in September 2024, signifies a substantial advancement in aviation technology for the US Army, with immediate delivery and installation planned, marking a new era of automation and safety in military aviation.
